Capel - Flooding Policy Scrutinised

6.01.01pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 1st Apr 2004

Capel Borough Councillor Patterson was one of the lead members in drawing up the Scrutiny Committee recommendations to the Cabinet on flooding policy.

Among their conclusions were the following: -

1. Emergency response by the Borough and co-operation with other bodies like the Parish Council Flood Committee are generally good.

2. It is vital that routine maintenance, like clearing drains and ditches and jetting gullies, is carried out as a priority.

3. Capital expenditure on flood prevention is money well spent and might save even more money over time, as it reduces the risk or lessens the impact of future flooding.
