Defend our Library Services, says Park candidate Dr Alan Bullion

10.46.49pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 2nd Jun 2004

Park Ward candidate Dr Alan Bullion has called for local Library Services to be defended from savage cutbacks.

"I spoke to staff who were picketing the library in the Town Centre which is in my ward and they told me of the planned cuts and downgrading in staffing levels that will affect the public," said Alan.

The proposed changes will shortly be considered by Kent County Council in Maidstone and are being opposed by KCC Lib Dem group leader Trudy Dean.

"This won't just affect the main libraries, but also the ones in areas such as Showfields and Sherwood," says Alan. "There have been many closures over recent years, and the Liberal Democrats are fighting to ensure that no further cuts in our library services take place."
