Lesley Herriot has won the election in St Johns ward for the Liberal Democrats

Lesley Herriot has won the election to become St Johns' newest borough councillor. She defeated conservative Councillor Brian Ransley who had recently been in the news for proposing controversial transport measures including banning all parking around High Brooms station and removing bus lanes in the borough. Cllr Ransley won the seat in a by-election in 2005.

Reacting to her win Lesley said "I am so happy to have been elected to represent the people of St Johns. I have lived here for almost 30 years and I am so glad to be able to give something back. Its also great to win the seat back for the Liberal Democrats. I will be sticking up for local residents, and fighting to improve the area."

The full results were:

Liberal Democrat (Lesley Herriot) - 836

Conservative - 708

UKIP - 116
