Tourism centred around the Pantiles generates £4.1m for the local economy

The campaign to save the Tourist Information Centre in Tunbridge Wells' historic Pantiles has received global support.

1,743 signatures from both locals and tourists backed the traders' petition, handed to the borough council's Roy Bullock last week.

The Civic Society has become the latest organisation to question the council's plans to either axe or move the centre.

Businesses in the tourist industry fear the service, which generates £4.1m in the local economy, will become nothing more than a computer in the corner of a council office.
